In a keynote Speech, Hon(Mrs) Eunice Thomas, former Commissioner in Akwa Ibom State Executive Council and Chairperson, Board of Corporate Akwa Ibom Community highlighted the challenges faced by existing and budding entrepreneurs in their task of creating jobs and advised the political class to engage robustly with the private sector if meaningful development must be made.' Government has no business in business, it's entirely our role and that's what we have been doing-creating jobs, enhancing the economy and even do sustain the middle class, and we believe the government can only partner us to leverage the gains of our role'. Said her further, "we have come together to share experiences, resources and challenges so as to activate a strong basis of engagement in policy, consultation and mobilization.
During the interactive segment, political candidates made attempts to respond to issues and concerns raised by the participants and other relevant economic stakeholders. From there, Candidates of the Accord Party and All Progressives Congress, Samuel Akpan and Umana Okon Umana respectively were inducted into the Corporate Akwa Ibom Community as Members by the groups governing Board.
Industry captains present at the event confided in newsmen that the idea of the Community is a collective decision and novel intervention of those of them in the forefront of entrepreneurship to build a sustainable structure that will assist politicians keep their electioneering promises within the lifeline of the tenure, and to shift economic development to the organised private sector as opposed to the present order: Where government tries in futility to do business. This position was echoed by Chief(Engr) Bassey Ekpokai, Vice Chairperson, Board of Corporate Akwa Ibom Community/ Member, Crude Oil Quality Assurance Group, Canada/USA, who also founded the HannyHouse Entertainment Incorporated.
Chatting with newshounds on the sidelines of the Dinner, Uduak Nseabasi, President, Greenspec Agriculture Group/Executive Secretary of Corporate Akwa Ibom Community mentioned that the event "is a time tested response to the urgent need for a symbiotic partnership between the business community and the State government in a manner that endow mutual benefits, such that the private sector will consolidate on the gains of economic enhancement, while the State will continue to facilitate an enabling environment with incentives where necessary".
HannyHouse Entertainment stars thrilled the audience along with David the saxophonist. Though the organiser is a corporate entity, the Evening was a blend of business, networking and relaxation. 'The hospitality is just too much', an enthusiastic participant told this Reporter when asked to describe the event in one word.
