If you're staying in Akwa Ibom state or you have visited the state before, it is expected that you are familiar with the above name.
This is the second biggest market in Akwa Ibom. Arguably. It is located in Itam, Itu Local Government Area. It is an everyday market but what makes it popular is their weekly market dates.
Today was Udua Itam...
This is the thing about Udua Itam. You can find everything there to buy. Well except cars and trucks.
Scenario 1.
You go to the market with little money. This is the day you find everything in your size and colour. But you have no money to buy all those. In fact, the day you have no money and you wear a size 42/45, that day you will find your absolute shoe.
Scenario 2.
You're just paid your salary or allowance or your bank mistakenly transfers money to you. You go to this market. This day you find nothing at all. Nothing clicks or fits you. You see dresses in mustard yellow and desert brown but that tortoise green will not be available. Your million naira buys you nothing. So you go home empty.
This market is about chance and Luck. Not money. Lol.
There used to be a myth that every market day, rain must fall. I don't know if that still happens. I am aware one of the rain makers now have a stall in the market, so rain falling may not be an issue again. LOL.
This market has tended to the fashion needs of young girls like me. Burberry bags? D&G gown? Atmosphere tops? Ferragamo shoes? All these are nothing. Designers live in this market. So that's no issue.
I was taught how to bargain in this market. I was taught how to hold my bag to my chest in this market.
There are a lot of things to say about this market. Hopefully someday I will tell you how I lost my wallet in this market.
On a final note, Udua/Urua Itam is a market you must visit before leaving the earth.
...to be continued!
