Lagos to close down Isolo mortuary March 26
LAGOS—Lagos State Government,
yesterday, said Isolo General Hospital’s mortuary would be shut down from March
26, 2013 in the interest of public health.
Commissioner for Health, Dr. Jide
Idris, who announced this, urged members of the public to make arrangement to
claim bodies of deceased family members or relatives kept at the morgue before
commencement of closure date.
According to him, any members of the
public who still required accommodation for their loved ones, could make
arrangements to transfer them to Gbagada General Hospital mortuary or the
General Hospital Lagos mortuary.
He said mortuaries at the Lagos
State University Teaching Hospital, LASUTH, Lagos Island General Hospital,
Ikorodu General Hospital and Epe General Hospital remained open for use by
members of the public.
The commissioner however, explained
that the recently renovated mortuary in Mainland General Hospital had now been
designated a Social Responsibility Centre and would henceforth receive and
accommodate only some categories of bodies.
